Holy Grail Lip Care Products

Hi guys!

I meant to post this two weeks ago, but crazy things came up while I was in the middle of writing it. I was going to go home for a week, but then my family decided to go to Cancun instead so we went there and then I was home for a week. Since I share my computer with Rob and he needed it, I was without it and unable to finish this post. I really wanted to be able to take photos of the product myself, but the weather hasn't been so great, so I had to use some images from Sephora. Anyway...today I'm going to tell you about some of my holy grail lip prep products. As you might know, most liquid lipsticks dry down to a matte finish which makes them a little harsh on the lips, so having a good prep and recovery system is essential! Plus, lip care in general is important!

"Fizzy Lip Exfoliating Treatment" via
On the prep side of things, two of my favorite lip scrubs/exfoliants that I like to use are Little Batch Apothecary's lip scrubs and Glam Glow's "POUTMUD Fizzy Lip Exfoliating Treatment and Wet Lip Balm Treatment". I managed to snag a set that contained both the "Wet" and "Dry" treatments, but now it looks like they're sold individually which I think is a great idea! That way, if you're running out of one more than the other, you can just buy the one you need more of. If you don't already use a lip scrub, you should start making it part of your weekly routine! I tend to exfoliate my lips only once or twice a week, the other lip products I use throughout the week work together to keep my lips pretty smooth.

My morning and night (and before workouts) go-to product is Bite Beauty's Agave Lip Mask. This thing works WONDERS on my lips. I went to Vegas for 5 days in October where I usually suffer from crazy cracked lips and dry skin, but I used this baby morning and night and had the softest lips ever. Besides the crazy dry weather from being in the dessert, I was also wearing matte liquid lipstick the majority of each day and my lips still had zero problems with dryness or cracking. The only downside of this product is it's pretty sticky and is just a squeeze tube like a hand lotion or toothpaste. I wish the tube had a design more like a lipgloss that comes in a squeeze tube or like a Carmex applicator so that I don't have to use my fingers to apply it. Regardless, this is still one of my must haves.

Bite Beauty's Agave Lip Mask via
When I've been extra negligent of my lips, my secret combination to soft lips is....Fresh's Sugar Lip Serum Advanced Therapy topped with Bite Beauty's Agave Lip Mask before going to bed. When I wake up in the morning after using this combination, my lips are extremely soft and supple. The Lip Serum is able to be "sealed in" by the Lip Mask due to the stickiness of the Lip Mask.

For my every day lip balm needs, I use lip balm from Epically Epic Soap Co.  (still and will always be one of my most favorite lip balm brands) or eos's Visibly Soft line, Vanilla Mint is my favorite!

What are some of your favorite lip care products?

Also, I promise that I won't be posting just once a month! Hopefully my life gets back into a routine now that I'm starting up my nanny job again next week. I hope you're all doing well and I appreciate all of the well wishes on my previous post! You guys are the absolute best!!

Kat Von D 50 (or so) Shades of Pink (and Neutral)!

Hi everyone! Happy New Year! Can you believe it's 2016 already?

This is my first review after ~2 years of being away, so I might be rusty! It's also different from my usual reviews as it's not lip balm, but rather a review on liquid lipstick! This past summer I absolutely fell head over heels for liquid lipstick. I have to have it ALL! I've always loved lipstick, but I think I love liquid lipstick even more. Also, please bear with me here, I am super self conscious about posting pictures of my lips and felt so awkward while taking these photos. As many of you may have noticed, I don't really swatch colors aside from on my arm/hand, so there will definitely be some trial and error on my end as we move in this new direction. Anyway...I have a LOT of liquid lipstick from Kat Von D, so I thought I'd split up my reviews based on shades. First up, some of her shades of pink and some of her neutrals!

Company: Kat Von D

Shades: Lolita, Lolita II, Lovesick, Mother, Beloved, Jeffree, Berlin and Bachelorette. Lolita is a great skin-tone neutral color (well if your skin tone is similar to mine at least), it's a cult favorite and I see why! I love wearing this when I want to look like I'm wearing nothing at all. This color on Sephora is described as "chestnut rose". Lolita II is the newest installment to the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick line and is described as "terra cotta nude" which I totally get! It's more burnt orange-y than Lolita and on my skin tone shows up more pinky/orange. This is another great neutral color which I'd imagine would look great on many skin tones! Lovesick is one of my most worn colors out of the pinks/neutrals. It's one of the lightest pinks, not too vivid, but when my summer tan is in action, this lipstick looks much brighter. This one is described as a "mauve nude" and I'd say that's pretty spot on, although sometimes on me it looks like a muted baby pink. Mother is described as a "dusty mauve pink" and I definitely think that's what this color looks like. This is one of my newer shades and I haven't been able to wear it much yet, but nevertheless it's a pretty gorgeous pink color. Unfortunately, on my skin Beloved and Jeffree show up as almost the exact same color. (I actually couldn't tell the difference when I was looking at the pictures except for the change in time stamp as I was swatching!) Beloved is described as "soft coral" and Jeffree is described as "hot pink", but as I said before, these look the same on my skin. The only thing that I would note is that Beloved is slightly softer in color than Jeffree. Berlin is one of my absolute favorite shades! It's described as a "warm rose" and I would agree, this color is a pretty vivid rose pink. This is one of my go-to lipsticks when I don't feel like wearing my usual purple or red, but still want my lips to stand out. Bachelorette is described as "dark reddish fuchsia" which is accurate. This is most certainly the most red out of the bunch without stepping over completely into the shades of red that this line carries as it is still a very pink shade.

From left to right: Lolita, Lolita II, Lovesick, Mother, Beloved,
Jeffree, Berlin, Bachelorette
Wear: These go on very easy and with great coverage! There's a bit of a learning curve when switching from regular lipstick to liquid lipstick as liquid lipstick basically sticks anywhere you want (and don't want) it to be. So when first getting used to liquid lipstick it can be frustrating if you accidentally put it where you didn't mean to (i.e. smudges and attempting to fix them will sometimes leave behind faint marks). With all that being said, once you have a handle on them, they go on wonderfully! I usually only need one coat to get perfect coverage, on the rare case I need two, but it will last for hours and hours! If you guys remember, I eat and drink a LOT and very frequently, so lipsticks or lip color of any and all kinds don't last too long on me, but these will last at least 4 hours (which is generally when I need to eat again). If I don't eat anything too greasy, the lipstick lasts for 6+ hours. I should also mention that these dry down to a matte finish which could be drying (almost all mattes are drying), but I've managed to keep up a good lip care routine lately so I can wear liquid lipstick all day every day and not have dry lips. ALSO, I should mention I use a universal lip liner whenever I wear lipstick which could affect how long my lipstick lasts, but honestly with these ones I don't think it's by much. It's more to keep it from feathering and moving around my lips.

Packaging: These come in tubes similar to what you'd see lip gloss come in and have a doe foot applicator (similar to lip gloss).  You can see the color of each lipstick through the tube which is great for picking out just the right shade you want (or comparing two or three shades to find just the perfect shade for the day).

Price: $20 each, which I think is a great deal for these! Sure you can find some that are cheaper and some that are more expensive, but I think these are a great middle ground! For the quality and variety of colors, I'll gladly pay $20!

Overall
Pros: Variety of shades, price, wear, packaging
Cons: That I don't own every single shade and that there aren't even more shades for me to get my hands on!

Rating: 5 out of 5 twists (should I change this to tubes for lipsticks?)

Thanks for bearing with me on this review you guys! I hope you enjoyed the swatches and found this review useful. Please leave any feedback you may have for me in the comments so that I can improve! I was (am) super self conscious about my swatches and lipstick application, but hopefully with time I can gain some more confidence!

Hi guys!!

Hi guys!!

So I've definitely been gone a lot longer than I ever anticipated. I've done a lot of things in the last two years that kept me away from writing (working 50+ hours each week, trying to still workout 7-9 times a week, spend time with Rob, traveling, etc). But, this past summer after finally being fed up enough with my job, I quit! It's been one of the best decisions I ever made. I was just going through the motions at a job I didn't enjoy anymore, but happened to be really good at. After being disrespected and undervalued time and time again, I finally said good bye! I was losing myself, at the end of it I didn't even work out anymore or eat healthy, I stopped taking care of myself because the stress and how unhappy I was at my job just ate away at me. It was exhausting! I'm nannying again which I absolutely LOVE to do, I love taking care of children and this suits my life so much better than my previous job. I'm getting back to my old self (the last two weeks have been steady workouts and clean eating(!), not just a workout here and there).

I want to start writing a few times a week. I've made a TON of purchases the last three months from Sephora, Ulta, and various other cosmetics companies that I've just fallen in love with. I'm trying to figure out how I want to tell you all about the wonderful things I've discovered. I feel a shift happening in what this blog will be about. I'm still definitely all about lip care, but also lipstick, eyeshadow, mascara, skin/face cream, highlighters, etc.

I'm working on it (and myself) and hoping to get somewhere close to where this blog was three years ago when I was living in San Francisco and devoted all of my time to this blog and working out (benefits of taking a year off of school and work). I'm trying to figure out how to balance this blog, working, maintaining my rigorous training schedule, and spending quality time with those that I love.

You'll hear from me soon,

Christina

Not Dead...Just super busy!

Hey guys!!

I know it has been about FOUR months since I've posted anything on here, and I just wanted to check in and say that I'm SO sorry for being gone for so long. I never, ever anticipated that I would take that long of a break from this blog. So many things have been happening and keeping me busy, but I want to try to get back to posting at least once a week on here. Here's a mini recap of the last few months:
-I got a new job!
-One week later, Rob got laid off from his job
-Three months later Rob finally landed another job
-Two months ago we started Krav Maga and now we spend all of our available time doing that (if you're in Seattle check out www.kmseattle.com)
-If I'm not at Krav, then I'm at the gym, hot yoga, eating, or sleeping
-My computer is still broken and Mac's are like a foreign territory to me so I don't like to spend a lot of time on here (Rob's computer) (one of the reasons it's difficult for me to post)

That's kind of about it...money for the last few months has been extremely tight, we had to dig into savings to afford our rent while Rob was looking for work, so I haven't been able to splurge on bath and body stuff like I've previously been able to. That's another reason I haven't been on here much, I just don't have the product to write about.

I do continue to get my Birchbox and Ipsy subscriptions and have found some really amazing products that I love which I would love to tell you guys about in the near future, so you can look forward to that.

I just really wanted to apologize for taking such an extended break from this blog and from you all. I really appreciate all of your support over the years and hopefully I can get this blog back to its former glory!

Love you all,
Christina

Tom Jack's

So I've been trying to branch out to new and different lip balm companies, this is one of the first ones that caught my eye. I've had them for a while now and I'm so excited to tell you about them!

Company: Tom Jack's

Flavors: Citrus, Cocoa Mint, and Birch Beer. The Citrus smells like a bright combination of lemon and lime in my opinion. I thought it would be more like orange, but I actually like this combination of scents! It has a sweet, slightly sour scent and it's just wonderful! The first scent I get when I smell the Cocoa Mint is cool, tingly peppermint; it's so refreshing! Then there's a lovely scent of milk chocolate. It's a pretty refreshing take on a mint chocolate balm since the mint is the first thing I smell. I've never tried a Birch Beer balm before (or birch beer for that matter), but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It reminds me of when I was in band and the lubricant we used on some of our instruments (I played clarinet). I actually liked the scent of that so this is wonderful! Rob thinks this smells like winter/spearmint. I can't say if this smells like real birch beer or not, but this does smell good!

Wear: The Citrus and Cocoa Mint come in tins and I feel like I have to dip into the tin multiple times to get enough product onto my lips, so the consistency may be a little thin out of the tin. The Birch Beer came in a tube and it goes on smooth and even, the consistency is a little thin, but I don't feel like I need to put more on.

Packaging: Like I said, two of these come in tins and one came in a tube. The design is kind of upscale, but rustic at the same time...if that makes sense. I like that it looks like something you'd find in an apothecary of sorts.

Price: The tins are $3.50 and the tubes are $2.25, both prices are definitely reasonable!

Overall
Pros: Flavors, Wear, Packaging, Price
Cons:

Rating: 4 out of 5 twists. These balms were pretty good! I keep one tin in my makeup bag at all times to wear under lipstick. I was glad I was able to try balms from a shop I've never tried before!

Ingredients:
Cocoa Mint-Cocoa Butter, Beeswax, Coconut Oil, Chocolate, Essential Oil
Citrus and Birch Beer-Beeswax, Almond Oil, Coconut Oil, Essential Oil

Have you tried Tom Jack's balms before? What did you think of them?

ChapStick: Spring 2014 Flavors!

Hi everyone! Who's ready for a real review? I'm sorry I've been slacking yet again this week. I've been meaning to blog each day, but Rob's working on a super awesome game right now and he's pretty much had the computer all day, every day. My computer is still out of commission, so right now we're just sharing the one. Anyway...ChapStick® sent me these balms about two weeks ago and I've been dying to tell you about them! I've been using them on a daily basis!

Company: ChapStick®

Flavors: Citrus Jelly Bean and Pomegranate Gumdrop. The Citrus Jelly Bean smells of bright, sweet oranges. It most definitely reminds me of an orange jelly bean! If you're a citrus fan, this is one I'd definitely recommend. The Pomegranate Gumdrop smells of tart, yet sweet pomegranate candy. I really do feel like I'm taking a whiff of a chewy, gumdrop candy. I don't know how they do it, but each scent smells exactly like you think it would! Even down to what the consistency of the candy would smell like, do you know what I mean?

Wear: These go on nice and smooth, like your usual ChapStick® balms. They have a pretty great consistency, just enough goes on that you don't feel like your mouth is slathered in product, but at the same time doesn't leave you with the need to put more on (unless you want to of course!). They hold up pretty well through eating and drinking, I usually can get a good 1-2 hours out of one application.

Packaging: These come in your average sized lip balm tubes with labels that are colored to match the flavor of the balm (pink for Pomegranate Gumdrop and orange for Citrus Jelly Bean).

Price: These range in price depending on where you pick your's up at, anywhere between $0.99 and $2.18 which is a steal either way!

Overall
Pros: Flavors, Wear, Packaging, Price
Cons:

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 twists, these balms are absolutely wonderful! I've always been a ChapStick® fan and I probably always will be. I always get super excited to find new flavors from an old favorite, and these ones definitely didn't disappoint!

Have you tried these new flavors from ChapStick yet? What did you think of them?
